The first contest to choose the most beautiful girl in the world, Miss World, was organized in 1954 in Great Britain, and continued to be held there regularly until 1989.  Growing interest from the media and the public has led to high viewership, which actually exceeded three billion viewers on more than one occasion.  In the last several years, Slovakia was successfully represented at Miss World by Karolína Čičátková, Andrea Verešová, Janka Horečná, Jana Ivanová, Eva Verešová, Adriana Pospíšilová, Mária Sándorová, Ivica Sláviková, Magdaléna Šebestová, Veronika Husárová and Edita Kresáková. This year, Miss Slovakia 2009 Barbora Franeková will represent the Slovak Republic at Miss World.
